Key Information

Wood Ley Community Primary School is named after the fields on which it stands. The school was situated between two fields; Little Wood Ley and Wood Ley. It is possible to locate our site on the 1841 map by using the old Stow Lodge Hospital as a landmark. At that time no roads existed on the estate of Chilton Hall.

Wood Ley opened in September 1989. It is an attractively built school with classrooms sited around a light filled atrium.

Accommodation comprises of three teaching areas: Foundation, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. A hall, administration suite, staff room, cloakroom facilities and children's library are connected to the teaching areas by a central atrium. In 1993 further development took place to extend the library and to provide a small extra room and a teacher resource room. The room became our '2000' ICT suite housing computers.^ In the summer of 2003 the staff room was refurbished to become a new computer suite, with twelve computers and interactive whiteboard. The old room is now called Pine room and is used for small group work. We are fortunate to have extensive grounds that include a play area, an environmental study area, a superb field and an outdoor adventure activity area. Extensive work has been carried out since 1996 to make the school secure.

Our aim is to create an environment where each child is motivated to learn and develop as a whole person and one where standards are high. The school community involves, staff, governors, children and parents/carers working for the good of individuals and the whole school.

We hope you and your children will enjoy being part of Wood Ley. The following information is an introduction to our life and work. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us. All staff are committed to providing a special partnership with you and your child whilst s/he enjoys his/her primary school years at Wood Ley.
